The theme park project announced in the commune of Gherghita, Prahova county, inspired by the legend of Dracula. The complex would cover about 160 hectares next to the A3 motorway, less than an hour from Bucharest and Henri Coanda Airport. Dracula Land was officially presented on 3 December 2025 as a private investment of over 1 billion euros. At its heart is the theme park itself, covering over 780,000 sq m (about 78 hectares) and divided into six themed zones: Moonlit District, the entrance area inspired by the old architecture of Bucharest, Family Kingdom, for families, Transylvania, Dracula's Castle, the park's centrepiece with a roller coaster and a museum, Port of New Orleans and London Town. The developers have announced over 40 major attractions, including the Flight of the Bat Wing and Werewolf Run roller coasters, the interactive dark ride Going Batty, a flying theater and a drone show. Around the park, plans include a 22,500-seat multipurpose arena for concerts, festivals and esports competitions, an Aqua Park & Thermal Spa of about 50,000 sq m with over 30 water attractions, an outlet with over 70 brands, a racing circuit of about 4.5 km and a business and technology hub. For visitors staying several days, the project includes three themed hotels, Dracula Grand Hotel, Dracula Family Hotel and Dracula Inn, with over 1,200 rooms in total. The project's founders are real estate developer Dragos Dobrescu and businessman George Toader. The park concept is by Creative Studio Berlin, and architecture, engineering and consulting firms from Romania, Italy and Germany are working on the project. The developers estimate over 5,000 jobs and about 3 million visitors a year in the first phase. The chosen site also has a long history: Gherghita has been documented since 1431 and was an important market town in the Middle Ages, at the confluence of the Teleajen and Prahova rivers. The Princely Church of St Procopius, founded by Matei Basarab in 1641, survives from that period. Project status: the land must be rezoned through a Zonal Urban Plan, followed by the urban planning certificate and the building permit. By early September 2026 there was no official public confirmation of final approval. The year 2027, mentioned as the opening date, is the developers' target, not a confirmed date, and tickets are not on sale. Official information is published at draculaland.com. Until the opening, the Gherghita area is a good base for day trips to Therme Bucharest, the Slanic Salt Mine, Peles and Pelisor Castles or Bran Castle. On our site you will find accommodation nearby, and our blog article has all the details about the project, with their sources.
